When Women’s March formed earlier this year, we were asked to participate in creating an image for the movement. What began as a single event had quickly grown into a global movement, and the organizers were eager to have a visual identity to unite dozens of chapters. In a rapid, but thorough design-a-thon, we found a symbol that we, and the Women’s March national committee loved: the silhouettes of three women marching forward. They come from different backgrounds, and are joined together to build a movement facing forward. They are ready to speak up. It was important to us that the figures represent not just women alone, but that they symbolize the ideas of diversity, solidarity, and determination that define all defenders of human rights.
